2008 GRANT AWARDS

CYCLONE AND EARTHQUAKE RELIEF. $6,000 to American Red Cross and Catholic Relief Services for emergency aid for the Myanmar Cyclone Disaster and to China for earthquake relief.

BEREA CHILDREN’S HOME, 202 Bagley Rd, Berea OH  44107.  Granted $20,000 for operating support in their Community Services Division witch helps needy and mentally disadvantaged children and their families attain self sufficiency, enhance family stability, reduce the need for future intervention and help adults find employment.

COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT SERVICES, 8415 Broadway Ave , Cleveland OH .  Granted $20,126 to provide an additional one year of housing and employment for chemical dependant addicts that have completed the basic three month recovery program.

UNITED WAY OF GREATER CLEVELAND , 3100 Euclid Ave., Cleveland OH 44114. Granted $5,200 for general operating expense to administer funding to 130 local social service agencies.

HARVEST FOR HUNGER, 1331 Euclid Ave., Cleveland OH 44114. Granted $7,000 toward their Student Leadership Program designed to help students run food drives in their schools, learn how to pack food bags for for pantry distribution and actually work at least one day in a local food pantry.

CLEVELAND FURNITURE BANK , 6610 Biddulph Ave, Cleveland OH 44144. Granted $5,000 to help pickup, store and distribute used clothing and furniture to needy individuals referred by local social service agencies.

THE WILKINSON CENTER, 5200Brson St., Dallas TX 75206. Granted $10,400 in partial support of a Homelessness Prevention Case Manager at their on site Food Pantry. This program is expected to assist about 600 clients who are in immediate risk of eviction and are motivated to avoid homelessness.

COVENANT ADOLESCENT CHEMICAL DEPENDANCY TREATMENT AND PREVENTION, 1515 W. 29th Street, Cleveland OH 44113. Granted $10,000 in partial support to implement community based integrated Systems of Care program which has proven successful in treatment for multi-need youth while minimizing need for inpatient or residential treatment services.

INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK, 2592 W. 14th Street, Cleveland OH 44113. Granted $15,000for this consortium of churches and synagogue to house, feed, and train homeless facilities and to obtain employment and become independent of further agency assistance.

SENIOR RESOURCE CENTER, 3100 Devonshire, Cleveland OH.  Granted $15,000 to partially fund cost of picking up seniors at their homes and transport them to meal programs, doctors visit, prescription pick-up, food pantries, etc.  71% of these seniors are at or below the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA, 2710 Walton Ave., Cleveland OH 44113. Granted $7,000 to help fund part tine out-reach teams who search homeless encampments and engage them to establish trust and link them with other community resources.

BROKEN CONNECTIONS 12832 Euclid AVe., East Cleveland 44112. Granted $20,000 to provide housing and training for four homeless residents of East Cleveland for four months after which they will have regular full time jobs in the construction industry be self sufficient thereafter.

CLEVELAND CLINIC, TAUSIG CANCER RESERCH CENTER. 9500 Euclid Ave, Cleveland OH 44195. Granted $35,000 for Stage 2 testing of a novel anti-cancer drug that is designed to be selectively attracted to cancer cells. After entering the cell the new drug emits a poison that destroys the cancer.

KIDNEY FOUNDATION OF OHIO, 2831 Prospect Ave., Cleveland OH 44115. Granted $10,000 for case management advocacy programs to low income individuals and families to obtain help from local, state, and federal agencies for renal treatment.

MURTIS TAYLOR HUMAN SERVICES 13422 Kinsman Ave. Cleveland OH 44120. Granted $20,000 in support of the regionalization of three Southeast Cleveland Community Centers into one that will result in important cost savings .during times of shrinking revenues.

TRANSITIONAL HOUSING INC. 1545 W. 25th Street, cleveland OH 44113. Granted $20,000 to partially cover the salary of a Program Director/Associate Director who is responsible to see that the philosophy, mission and policies of the entire organization are fulfilled.

OLD STONE FOUNDATION 191Public Square, Cleveland OH 44113. Granted $15,000 for their program to help unwed teen mothers learn parenting and day care of their babies while they prepare the mothers for job readiness.

 

2007 GRANT AWARDS

COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT SERVICES, 8415 Broadway Ave , Cleveland OH .  Granted $30,000 to be used to establish income generating for-profit business ventures that will employ addicts who have completed a 90 day treatment program.  The goal is to establish a self-sustaining program to keep addicts under supervision for one year or more while gainfully employed.

COMMUNITY SERVICE ALLIANCE, 4001 Trent Ave , Cleveland OH .  Granted $22,000 to help fund a Community Coordinator to work with homeless men at the 2100 Lakeside Shelter and help those that are ready to transition from their additions to the Procop Halfway House.

CMHA, PROJECT HOPE OPERATIONS, 1242 E. 49th St., Cleveland OH.  Granted $25,000 to provide case management services to residents of the Valley View revitalization project to encourage self-sufficiency and less reliance on government assistance.

 

LUTHERAN METROPOLITAN MINISTRY, 1468 W. 25th St., Cleveland OH  44113.  Granted $20,000 to establish an Employer Development program to advocate for, train and find employment for persons with mental and physical disabilities.  This grant contingent on LMM raising the remainder funding to support this new post by June 1, 2007.

 

CLEVELAND TENANTS ORGANIZATION, 3631 Perkins Ave, Suite 3A-4, Cleveland OH  44114.  Granted $12,500 for year two of a two year program to partially fund a Development Specialist that would be shared by Cleveland Tenants Organization, Environmental Health Watch and Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless.

 

WEST SIDE CATHOLIC SHELTER, 3135 Lorain Ave, Cleveland OH  44113. Granted $30,000 for general operating support of heir residency shelter program for homeless women and children.  Part of this funding will generate statistics on efficacy of their counseling programs.

 

CLEVELAND SIGHT CENTER , 1900 East 101 Street, Cleveland OH   44106 .  Granted $15,000 for partial payment of optometric department services that will provide low vision aids to poor and needy clients who cannot pay normal fee for service. 

 

SPECTRUM OF SUPPORTIVE SERVICES, 2900 Detroit Ave. Cleveland OH   44113 . Granted $12,000 for a job retention program to encourage and council clients with mental disabilities to retain their employment in the face of unexpected difficulties.

YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES UNLIMITED, Granted $10,000 to help train and find employment for inner city teens, many of whom are teen mothers with one or more children.  Program is designed to encourage them to remain in school and complete their education while learning how to support themselves.

CEREBRAL PALSY,  10011 Euclid Ave., Cleveland OH  44106.  Granted $7,000 for general operating support to provide life sustaining and enrichment opportunities to individuals with severe disabilities who face complex barriers to independence.

BELLFLOWER CENTER FOR PREVENTION OF ABUSE TO CHILDREN ,  Granted $20,000  for general operating support of needy children who cannot afford group and individualized therapy for their abuse trauma, and for their non-offending caregivers, through the recovery process.

UNIVERSITY SETTLEMENT, 4800 Broadway Ave, Cleveland OH  44127. Granted $25,000 for general operating expenses in their Transitional Housing Program that works with homeless families to provide temporary housing with a goal of moving them into their own permanent or house within 24 months.  Program includes educating the predominately female head of household with a curriculum of budgeting classes.

NEW LIFE COMMUNITY, 3470 E. 152 St. Cleveland OH  44120.  Granted $22,000 to support one homeless, jobless family for four months of shelter, job training, job retention, money management, parenting, budgeting, and preparation for GED.

UNIVERSITY RAINBOW AND BABIES HOSPITAL, 11100 Euclid Ave, Cleveland OH  44106.  Granted $35,000 to classify natural and synthetic small molecules with potential as competent agents, gain knowledge of the mechanisms by which these agents block evolution of cancer, and as a result identify new targets for cancer therapy and chemoprevention. 

EPILEPSY ASSOCIATION. 2831 Prospect Ave, Cleveland OH  44115. Granted $15,000 to support a program to help needy individuals suffering from epilepsy meet basic needs, work toward greater self sufficiency and improve ability to manage life issues independently.

JEWISH FAMILY SERVICE, 3659 S. Green Rd., Beachwood OH 44122. Granted $25,000 in support of their Teen Dating Violence and Healthy Teen Relationship program. Program is designed to educate teens about the different forms of violence and thus help curb domestic violence.
